K.G. back on Tuesday!

February 17th, 2008 DKCMan

Kevin told the Boston Globe that he would be ready to go on Tuesday, when the Celtics return from the All Star Break. Kevin has not played since January 25th against Minnesota! Welcome Back Da Kid!

Now we know what Kevin is doing while out

February 11th, 2008 DKCMan

Rumors have it Kevin Garnett’s wife is pregnant! Now we know what Kevin has been doing while on the disabled list. Orrrr. Abdominal Strain? Maybe his wife has been pregnant for some time now. Timely injury, don’t you say? Keep on keepin’ on K.G.

Da Kid unlikely for Minnesota return

February 6th, 2008 DKCMan

Our guy, Kevin Garnett is unlikely to return for his Minnesota reunion Friday night at the Target Center. Sidelined by an abdominal injury, it appears K.G. will remain seated.

Garnett has been out since January 25th, in the win over the Wolves at the Boston Garden.

The Celtics can afford to sit KG, with an 11.5 game lead over the Raptors in the division.

Da Kid out until after break?

February 1st, 2008 DKCMan

The Boston Globe is reporting our guy Kevin Garnett is going to be out until after the All Star Break. Celtics coach Doc Rivers’ had this to say:

“There are no guarantees until he’s 100 percent,” Rivers said. “If he’s ready for Cleveland, great. If he’s not, we’ll sit him. If he’s not ready for the next one [the Clippers], we’ll sit him. I’m not playing him until he’s 100 percent. That could be Cleveland. It could be after the All-Star break. It could be after that. He’s not playing until he’s 100 percent.”

We don’t like that news! Do the Celts really need Garnett back right now? Heck no! Do we want Kevin to be playing, and continuing his total domination of the National Basketball Association. Heck yes! Get healthy K.G!

K.G. top vote getter!!

January 26th, 2008 DKCMan

Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett got the most votes in fan balloting for the National Basketball Association All-Star Game and will be making his 11th straight appearance and ninth career start. Garnett got 2,399,148 votes in worldwide balloting, the sixth-highest total in All-Star voting history, the NBA said yesterday in a statement. The game will be played Feb. 17 in New Orleans.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James, last year’s top vote-getter, was second with 2,108,831 votes, while Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard was third with 2,066,991.

Guards Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat (1,608,260 votes) and Jason Kidd of the New Jersey Nets (1,246,386) will join Garnett, James and Howard as Eastern Conference starters.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant received 2,004,940 votes to lead all Western Conference players, with Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony second with 1,723,701 votes.

Also voted as Western Conference starters were Houston Rockets center Yao Ming (1,709,180 votes), San Antonio forward Tim Duncan (1,712,800) and Nuggets guard Allen Iverson (1,203,152).

Only Miami center Shaquille O’Neal has more All-Star appearances (14) among active players than Garnett, who was traded to the Celtics last summer after playing his first 12 NBA seasons with the West’s Minnesota Timberwolves.

Making Appearances

Bryant and Duncan were picked for their 10th All-Star Games; Kidd and Iverson their ninth; Yao his sixth; James and Wade their fourth; and Anthony and Howard — the only first-time starters — their second.

Doc Rivers, who has led Boston to a league-best 33-7 record, will coach the Eastern Conference, while the Western Conference coach hasn’t been determined.

The coach of the team with the best winning percentage in each conference by Feb. 3 is selected for the All-Star Game, but Phoenix’s Mike D’Antoni is ineligible after leading the Western Conference last year.

The reserves for the game will be announced Jan. 31 after being selected by the NBA’s 30 head coaches.

K.G. leads jersey sales

January 26th, 2008 DKCMan

According to Brandweek, our guy Kevin Garnett is leading the NBA in jersey sales:

You might think people not from the area are tired of professional New England teams, such as the NFL’s Patriots and MLB’s Boston Red Sox. But you’d be wrong.

The NBA said today that both the Boston Celtics and forward Kevin Garnett top the lists of most popular team merchandise and most popular player jerseys, respectively, based on sales at the NBA Store, New York, and at NBAStore.com for the holiday season.

Sales of Garnett’s jersey have tripled since the 2005-06 season, when he was with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Garnett, who was acquired by the Celtics prior to the 2007-08 season, also has driven sales of team merchandise, which has tripled since last season. In fact, Boston Celtics’ merchandise tops the league’s list for the first time since the NBA began compiling sales stats in 2001. Dollar figures were not released by the NBA.

Garnett bumps the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, whose jersey sales are second on the list. The New York Knicks were third on the team merchandise list and Knicks’ guard Stephon Marbury was ninth on the player jersey list, despite the fact that the Knicks have one of the worst win-loss records in the league.

The NBA said Q4 2007 was the largest sales quarter ever for the NBA Store and NBAStore.com, with a 6.5% increase over last year. NBAStore.com had its largest single sales month ever in December with a 14% increase over 2006.

A New Years treat for KG fans

Check out some of these videos demonstrating some of Kevin Garnett’s top plays!

Flip Saunders talks about Kevin Garnett

December 27th, 2007 DaKidClub.com

“Here’s the number one thing about KG. There is nobody in the game that respects the game as much as he does. When people respect the game like he does, I always say the basketball gods will shine upon you and good things will happen. If you respect the game, it will come back to you and it has come back to KG three-fold.”

Very true Flip.  Nice to hear these words from a former coach!

Celtics Rising talks highly of Garnett

December 22nd, 2007 DaKidClub.com

Sean Crowe of the Bleacher Report had a wonderful piece called Celtics Rising that I read the other day.  I started to talk about how bad the Celtics have been and how this offseason looked scary for a while.  Then he wrote this:

Then came Kevin Garnett.

Garnett changed everything.

KG re-motivated Paul Pierce. His arrival gave Pierce something he hasn’t have since graduating from Kansas:

Hope.

He’s not hoping to sneak into the playoffs and maybe win a series, as he did when Antoine Walker was his running mate.

He’s not hoping to lose enough games to score a high draft pick, as he did last season.

He’s legitimately hoping—even expecting—to win an NBA championship.

So far this season, that hope and expectation have brought out the best in Pierce.

What’s more, Garnett’s presence has turned Boston into a desirable free-agent destination.

When the Celtics signed Kevin Garnett, their stock went up in the eyes of all potential free agents. There is no Eddie House, James Posey, or even Scot Pollard without Kevin Garnett.

They’re not signing here for the money. They’re certainly not signing here for the weather. And trust me—they’re definitely not signing here for the chance to play for Doc Rivers.

They’re signing here to win. They think they can win because of Kevin Garnett.

Speaking of Doc Rivers, Garnett has proven to be a miracle-worker insofar as he’s turned Doc into a serviceable head coach (a young K.C. Jones, maybe).

Kevin Garnett listens to Doc…and so does the rest of the team.

Kevin Garnett plays defense…and so does the rest of the team.

It’s a lot easier to design a game-ending play (and I mean other than Doc’s patented “have Pierce hold the ball until there are four seconds left then shoot an off-balance fadeaway with three guys in his face”) when you have two legit crunch-time shooters (Pierce and Allen) facing man-to-man coverage because the opposing defense needs to keep bodies on Garnett underneath.

Pierce and Allen aren’t getting open looks in crunch time if Kendrick Perkins is the inside threat (and I use the term “threat” loosely).

And don’t underestimate the impact Garnett has had on the Celtics’ young bigs. Perkins has turned into a defensive force and a serviceable offensive option off the Garnett double-team. Glen Davis has become the second best rebounder on the team—and maybe the best offensive rebounder.

Defensively, having Perkins and Garnett in the middle makes it nearly impossible to push this Celtics team around. Posey, meanwhile, is a tremendous perimeter defender, and Rajon Rondo might have the fastest hands and feet I’ve ever seen on a point guard.

Of course, the Celtics aren’t perfect. They lack depth at the point guard position, and could use another big man who can score. Ray Allen has some injury concerns, while Tony Allen is a nightmare handling the ball in the backcourt.

However, in this NBA, Kevin Garnett, a pretty good bench, and a motivated Paul Pierce may be enough to hoist another championship banner at the fake Garden.

So sit back and enjoy the Kevin Garnett era. God knows I am.

If that doesn’t give you a good feeling about DaKid, Kevin Garnett, then I don’t know what will.  Good guy on a good team!
